Meeting Minutes 9/27/2011

1. Discussed setting up a regular meeting time. Still undecided.

2. 10/1/2011 Workday at Campus Lake Prairie:


Bring gloves, rakes, shovels, shears, or other tools if you have them.

Alex confirmed that he would bring his truck in case we need to pick up mulch. Rachel said she would contact groundskeeper.

Seed collection: either for the club purposes or to donate to Pyles Fork Green Earth

We will be discussing objectives for the next workday that will be in campus woods.

3. Discussed the possibility of collaborating with the Natural Areas Association

They will be holding a conference in Tallahassee on Nov. 1-4, 2011.

Next meeting for the NAA student chapter will be Nov. 9

4. Discussed our presence at the Campus Sustainability Fair:

October 26, 11:00am-1:00pm

Specifics were not discussed and are still to be decided

5. Living and Learning Community/Saluki Science Embassadors

Decided a couple of people would give a presentation about plants/restoration: October 18, 2011, 5:00pm-?

Jason offered to head this up, but others are encouraged to participate if they have knowledge about plants in southern Illinois

6. Club will be giving a presentation at the Dive In Event that is being held at the Touch of Nature Environmental Center

Nov. 4, 9:00am-2:00pm

Presentation should focus on the importance of conserving and protecting Illinois’ water. Specifics are still to be decided, but if anyone has ideas please contact one of the club officers (or just send an email to the listserv).

Campus Lake Prairie Clean-up

Grab a shovel or a rake and a friend!

Join the SIUC Restoration Club for an afternoon of fun at Campus Lake Prairie!

Saturday, October 1st at 1pm

meet at Campus Lake Prairie (west side of Campus Lake)

at the corner of Douglas Dr. & Poultry Center Dr.

Activities to include: trail clearing & maintenance, litter clean-up, grass seed collection, and a tour and discussion of a future restoration project in Thompson woods

**A limited number of gloves and tools will be provided, if you have your own and are willing to bring them along, please do so.
